Melbourne Celebrant Diary #2

The Kebabs of Oakleigh South

Ben & Ella @ Post Office Hotel / Brad & Rach @ Baxter Barn / Emily & David @ The Old Church

The weekend of weddings started off on a humid Friday for Ben and Ella’s ceremony at the Post Office Hotel in Coburg. Tons of fun. Really good stuff. Awesome duo. They have such a long and hilarious history that we even had to take out some details to get it under the running time.

I’m thinking about releasing an uncut version of that script complete with director’s commentary.

Also, The Post Office Hotel has a unisex toilet. Female toilets are great (I know how creepy that sounds): They’re so clean and there’s cologne, perfume, even hair gel.

No way I wanna go back to male only toilets. NO way. Not for all the kebabs in Oakleigh South.

Once that wrapped up, I headed to Baxter Barn to do the legals for a ‘My Celebrant Buddy’ wedding. It was for my old mate, B-Rad. Excellent footy player. Even better bloke. Him and Rach are a lovely, chilled couple.

Rach’s Aunty Maura did the ceremony and, dude, she knocked it OUT OF THE PARK. Unbelievable. She was emotional beforehand, but held her nerve and really pulled it off. God bless her.

I also saw my good friends Simon and Karl there, too. Simon was the person that suggested I become a Celebrant so I owe it all to him. He’s just a great man. Karl too. Real heart throbs.

The next day I went down to beautiful Red Hill for Emily and David’s ceremony. It was mad fun (yup, mad). The Old Church is a cracking venue and Emily and David are a brilliant couple. I also saw two other old chums in Krista and Joel ‘the Weed’ Lenders.

PLUS one of David’s groomsmen told me about this new beard straightener. I’m all over that. The other week I bought a hair trimmer which has an extension which lets you get those tricky lower back hairs.

Very handy.

With wedding obligations completed, I made the arduous journey from Red Hill to Mount Duneed for ‘A Day on the Green’ and Cold Chisel. Two long hours of just me and my thoughts.

It was great to get back to the place that inspired my first ‘Pimp My Celebrant’ outfit, Bogan Classqiue.

I went there with Josh, Damian and Nathan and man it was so GREAT to hang out with those guys. I love those boys. Suffice to say we got pretty - for lack of a better term – sloshed.

But hey, it’s a Chisel concert. What are we gonna do – not drink?

There was a dude passed out before Jimmy and the boys even started their set. And, once the guy came to, there was a girl on top of him – basically mounting – and they started making out vigorously.

Only at Chisel.

I’m off to bed. I’m seedy as.

Thanks for reading!

p.s. here’s an interview I did with Jimmy Barnes back in the day.
