I’m a sucker for a view. They make you appreciate the world around you. It suspends disbelief. It makes you think there’s life beyond this earth… this is getting philosophical.

Here’s my favourite venues in Melbourne that have jaw dropping, lip curling views.

Let me know if I’ve missed any :)

Riverstone

My heart belongs to Riverstone. It tops this list as my favourite ‘natural’ view in wedding venues across Victoria.

The ceremony takes place on a downslope which gives way to a backdrop of beautiful plains and staggering ranges – the type of landscape where rosellas swoop in delight and retired horse races nestle to stud.

Shift a gear down their driveway and you’ll be sold.

My great photographer friend, Rick Liston, even captured an eagle during one of my ceremonies there.

Luminare

Luminaire is all class.

Inside it has the pizazz of a New York City skyscraper restaurant.

On the outside its stunning views stretch from the city skyline and across the sea. It’s the type of imagery your wistfully recall well after departing.

If you’re planning on getting married in Melbourne, don’t leave Luminaire off the shopping list.

Polperro

A beautiful venue in a beautiful suburb.

My favourite spot to perform at Polperro is just under the patio, where the hardwood boards lead out to a set of gorgeously manicured grapevines.

As a celebrant based in Melbourne, I hold a special spot for Red Hill: It’s a great escape.

It’s my dream to live there one day (provided we all don’t get eaten by the zombies first).

The Harbour Room

I have nothing but fond memories of the Harbour Room.

When Melbourne’s torrential rain is staying on the sidelines, St Kilda’s Harbour Room rooftop is impossible to beat.

Every spot is like sitting in VIP vantage point.

Backing up against the sweeping views of the St Kilda seaside and promenade (cue this Paul Kelly tune), it always impresses.

Avalon Castle

One of my favourite places to work. The staff are great and the view is gorgeous. And it’s a little different to most of the Melbourne venues on this list.

The magic of Avalon is the castle backdrop. It’s majestic. A ceremony propped out the front is guaranteed to induce awe and wonder.

Plus, they’ve got a new ceremony space nestled amongst the trees at the bottom of the hill. Tremendous.

All Smiles

It takes about an hour and a half drive and two aeroplanes to get to Sorrento from my place in Abbotsford, but I love what All Smiles is all about.

Those who dwell in the city long for the spray of the sea breeze.

At All Smiles you can feel it in style. The ceremony space backs out directly against Port Phillip Bay. I always feel like chucking a line out.

It can get a wee bit chilly in Winter, but as far as seaside venues go, it’s perfect.

p.s. a few bonus ones…

  • Melbourne Aquarium – jaw dropping marine surrounds.

  • Werribee Mansion – like Avalon, the beauty is in the backdrop.

  • Vue de monde – this well know slice of elegance speaks for itself
