Best Melbourne DIY Wedding Venues

Many of my fave weddings have been those where the bride and groom implement their own signature taste - their own style.

Thankfully, Melbourne has no shortage of quality DIY BYO RBT venues (the last one stands for ‘really bloody terrific’ not ‘random breath testing’) venues.

Here’s a quick snapshot of some of my faves.

In no particular order….

ACACIA RIDGE

Quality, quality place: Fast becoming one of my faves. What I dig most about Acacia Ridge is that they don’t rest on their laurels.

They even built a self-containing mist system which cools you down during the summer months. I had a ceremony earlier in March where it was 48 degrees in the shade, and it came in darn handy.

Then there’s the windmill. The picturesque vineyard. The rustic top space. Superb.

twotonmax

The peculiar titled twotonmax in North Melbourne is an excellent, all contained space. Your ceremony will take place in the front room while the staff are busily prepping the reception space behind it.

It’s a terrific place in a gorgeously central location. I always feel at ease going to twotonmax.

I’m intrigued as to the name. Is the Max the owner? Is he really that heavy? All that and more in the next edition of Melbourne’s best DIY wedding venues.

Choose anyone to be your Celebrant

Choose ANYONE to be your CELEBRANT

What if you could choose ANYONE to be your Celebrant? You can! It can be your Dad. Your Uncle. Your best friend. ANYONE.

Glasshaus

Glasshaus is bursting through the wedding scene like a young Anthony Callea on Australian Idol. The location is perfectly central – Richmond really is the gateway of Melbourne.

Plus, they are building (probably finished at the time of writing) a retractable roof that shields you from the terror of Melbursia; the self-titled name I’ve given to the weather God of Melbourne.

I’ve done two there now, but have plenty more booked in and look forward to getting back there soon.

Log Cabin Ranch

Every time I venture into the Yarra Valley, I always look up real estate prices afterwards to see if I can afford to move down there.

And this feeling is all the more accentuated by the Log Cabin Ranch in gorgeous Monbulk. It’s everything you’d expect – gorgeous greenery, cockatiels and the faint whiff of bonfire in the distance.

It’s as rustic as a venue can get. And you’ve got multiple locations for your wedding, from the stables to the paddock arbour.

Camp Sunnystones

Camp Sunnystones will always hold a special spot because it was the location for many of my early weddings.

As soon as I turn down Possumtail Run I feel at ease.

I thought I’d officiated at every spot Sunnystones has to offer. Then Madga and Kristof’s ceremony came along, taking place at the bottom of a valley that was cornered by a small pond and a scattering of saplings. Perfection.
