Melbourne Celebrant Diary #4

A Stand-up Celebrant & the Corona Wedding Crush

I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in a number of corona weddings in Melbourne. They’ve been in backyards, parks, and living rooms.

And they’ve all been special in their own way.

There was one, however, that kinda blew my mind, considering the amount of mud they had to trudge through to get their documents signed.

But they did it with a smile on their face and a spring in their step.

I could not have any more admiration for Rachel and Maitland.

They turned a double decker dirt sandwich into a gourmet ham, cheese and tomato jaffle.

Here’s their timeline...

  • Fri June 19 – their venue bails on them due to COVID-19.

  • Sat June 27 – they book in their new venue.

  • Tue July 7 (4:30PM) – they have the rehearsal at the new venue with the ceremony to take place the following weekend.

  • Tues July 7 (4:35PM) – Daniel Andrews announces lockdown.

  • Tues July 7 (5PM) – new venue advises they can’t host their wedding.

  • Tues July 7 (6PM) – they organise their entire wedding (with the great Merle as Celebrant and me doing their legals) in the living room of their St Kilda apartment, with Facebook Live beaming to all their guests. There were tears, big LOLs and their cat Buster getting his fur burnt by a candle (he was fine btw).

  • Sat July 11 - we shoot some shots at the spectacular @metropolisevents

Talk about top notch folk. Well done, Rachel and Maitland.
